Due to pandemic and foster parent needs, COLORADO SPRINGS area applicants will be given priority consideration at this time.
Mindy came to Colorado 5/13/2020, with two sisters. They were found on the side of the road in Arizona. All had demodex mange, and slight rickets from malnutrition. Mindys all better now though, and has come so far!! She appears to be a cattledog/kelpie and maybe even some minpin mix. She has short, sleek hair that will likely not shed too much. She is roughly 17 lbs currently, at 14 weeks old. We estimate she will be around 25-35 pounds full grown, but thats a guess and certainly no guarantee!
Shes housetrained completely with a dog door, great with other dogs and would be good with older or dog savvy kids. She is in that every thing must be bited phase, including your hands, feet, nose, chin, hair, etc, so may be a bit too much puppy for a toddler or infant. Like most herding breeds, she likes to bite ankles, toes, and pant legs too; she likes to wrap her paws around foster mom's ankle as she walks by... She is learning with correction and substituting toys, though, and is growing out of the puppy biting phase. She may be a bit too much puppy for a cat, but hasnt met one that we know of. Shes very close with several of my dogs, so another doggie friend would be great- even if only on play dates. She plays rough, and takes on my biggest dogs (70 lbs) with glee.
Shes pretty good about not getting into stuff that she shouldnt, but like any puppy, she needs supervision and a home thats been puppy-proofed. The yard, especially bushes and flowers, seem to be more fair game though. Shes an excellent helper when youre doing yard work.
Mindy had been sleeping in her playpen at night, but recently transitioned to sleeping with foster parents in bed... she sleeps thru the night. She would love to sleep in bed with you, as shes a next level snuggle pro!! Naps with her people are her favorite too. During the day time, she spends her time either playing outside or taking naps on the big dogs beds. Shes independent and often enjoys just being outside laying in the sun by herself. She will get up and take herself outside as needed, so we would love to see her in a home with a doggie door.
We would also love to see her in a home where she isnt kenneled for long hours per day either, so someone home a lot or who could take her to work with them would be great. She often naps behind foster moms work chair, and is a valuable office assistant.
Mindy does bark when playing and/or frustrated, mostly when chasing and playing with big dogs. Her bark is loud and piercing... shes not appropriate for an apartment lifestyle. She would likely enjoy an active lifestyle, hiking, running, or even agility, once she's bigger.
Mindy sits on voice or hand command. Shes inquisitive and does a good job of paying attention to her people. Shes independent and not super needy, so just the right mix. She will come to you for snuggles and love, but doesn't tend to pester you.
Mindy is spayed (6/26/20) and will have all her puppy shots and a microchip at the time of adoption. She will need a rabies vaccination at 16 weeks of age.
She will be ready to meet potential adopters beginning 6/28 or 6/29.... More >
